I find the undercurrent of "Dev Hynes is a pop star with more money than he's letting on" in this article to be offensive and utterly misguided. Dev has spent many well-documented years toiling on his music (as Lightspeed Champion) barely making enough money to pay the band he played with. In this light, speculating whether or not Dev could afford house insurance seems unbearably crass. Even if Dev didn't have house insurance, is his right to our sympathy revoked? Just because Dev released a hit album late this year, doesn't mean that he suddenly has the financial resources of Bono. Baxter is looking to conceal a personal attack on Dev underneath a (dull and obtuse) critique of crowd-sourcing itself.
